Spanish Typing Test

Type common Spanish words, accents included, and get your WPM and accuracy the moment you finish. Accented letters count as their own characters, so the test measures real Spanish typing.

Before you start

Test setup

  • 566 common Spanish words
  • Accents: á, é, í, ó, ú and ñ
  • 10 to 100 words per run
  • WPM plus accuracy

How to take it

  1. Click the test area and start typing; the clock starts on your first key.
  2. Type accented letters as they appear: á, é, í, ó, ú is not the same character as the plain letter.
  3. Choose 25, 50 or 100 words before you start to change the length.
  4. Fix mistakes with Backspace; corrected errors still count in accuracy.

How scoring works

WPM uses the standard five-character word. An accented letter typed with a dead key counts as one character, the same as any other letter.

About the spanish test

The Spanish test uses TypePlay's list of 566 common Spanish words, written for typing practice. Typical words: de, la, que, el, en, los, del, las. Longer ones include gobierno, presidente, mientras, millones.

Typing Spanish accents

On a Spanish (Spain) keyboard, ñ has its own key to the right of L, and accented vowels are typed with the dead acute key followed by the vowel. On a US keyboard with the US-International layout, type an apostrophe and then the vowel for á, é, í, ó or ú, and AltGr + n for ñ.

Why practise in your own language

Typing speed is partly memory: your fingers learn the letter patterns of the words you type most. Practising in Spanish trains those patterns directly, so the speed you build carries over to the emails, essays and messages you actually write.

Tip for a cleaner run

Spanish stresses vowels: watch for á and ó in common words like más and también, which are easy to type without the accent by habit.

Spanish typing test: common questions

Do I need a Spanish keyboard for this test?

No. A Spanish layout makes accents quicker, but any keyboard works with an international layout such as US-International, where accents are typed as a dead key followed by the letter.

Do accents count as mistakes if I leave them out?

Yes. A plain letter where the word has an accent is a different character, so it counts as an error. That keeps the score honest for real Spanish typing.

Is Spanish typing slower than English typing?

A little at first, because accents add keystrokes and the word patterns are new. With practice most bilingual typists get close to their English speed.
