Turkish Typing Test

Type common Turkish words, accents included, and get your WPM and accuracy the moment you finish. Accented letters count as their own characters, so the test measures real Turkish typing.

Before you start

Test setup

  • 560 common Turkish words
  • Accents: ç, ğ, ı, İ, ö, ş and ü
  • 10 to 100 words per run
  • WPM plus accuracy

How to take it

  1. Click the test area and start typing; the clock starts on your first key.
  2. Type the letters exactly as they appear, including ç, ğ, ı, İ, ö, ş and ü.
  3. Choose 25, 50 or 100 words before you start to change the length.
  4. Fix mistakes with Backspace; corrected errors still count in accuracy.

How scoring works

WPM uses the standard five-character word. A letter with a diacritic counts as one character, the same as any other letter.

About the turkish test

The Turkish test uses TypePlay's list of 560 common Turkish words, written for typing practice. Typical words: bir, ve, bu, için, ile, çok, daha, gibi. Longer ones include üniversite, bilgisayar, öğretmen, çalışmak.

Typing Turkish accents

Turkish Q keyboards keep the Latin letters but add ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş and ü, and move a few punctuation keys. The F keyboard is a different layout; use whichever you already touch-type. On a US layout, a Turkish layout or AltGr lets you type the extra letters.

Why practise in your own language

Typing speed is partly memory: your fingers learn the letter patterns of the words you type most. Practising in Turkish trains those patterns directly, so the speed you build carries over to the emails, essays and messages you actually write.

Tip for a cleaner run

Turkish has two i letters: dotless ı and dotted i. Capital i becomes İ, while capital ı becomes I. Slow down on words with ı, i, ş and ğ until the difference is automatic.

Turkish typing test: common questions

Do I need a Turkish keyboard for this test?

No. A Turkish layout makes accents quicker, but any keyboard works with an international layout such as US-International, where accents are typed as a dead key followed by the letter.

Do accents count as mistakes if I leave them out?

Yes. A plain letter where the word has an accent is a different character, so it counts as an error. That keeps the score honest for real Turkish typing.

Is Turkish typing slower than English typing?

A little at first, because the extra letters add keystrokes and the word patterns are new. With practice most bilingual typists get close to their English speed.
