Before you start

Test setup

  • 366 common Hinglish words
  • Standard English keyboard
  • 10 to 100 words per run
  • WPM plus accuracy

How to take it

  1. Click the test area and start typing; the clock starts on your first key.
  2. Type each word exactly as spelled on screen.
  3. Choose 25, 50 or 100 words before you start to change the length.
  4. Fix mistakes with Backspace; corrected errors still count in accuracy.

How scoring works

WPM uses the standard five-character word and accuracy counts every keystroke.

About the hinglish test

The Hinglish test uses TypePlay's list of 366 common Hinglish words, written for typing practice. Typical words: main, tum, aap, hum, yeh, woh, mera, meri. Longer ones include zindagi, dosti, bahut, accha.

Keyboard: nothing to install

Hinglish is Hindi written in Roman letters, the way most people text and chat in India. It uses a standard English QWERTY keyboard with no extra layout, so it is a good way for Hindi speakers to practise typing speed with words they actually use.

Why practise in your own language

Typing speed is partly memory: your fingers learn the letter patterns of the words you type most. Practising in Hinglish trains those patterns directly, so the speed you build carries over to the emails, essays and messages you actually write.

Tip for a cleaner run

Spellings vary in Hinglish (yeh and ye, woh and vo). The test uses common spellings: read each word as written rather than typing your own spelling from habit.

Hinglish typing test: common questions

Do I need a special keyboard for this test?

No. Hinglish uses ordinary English letters, so any QWERTY keyboard works.

Do accents count as mistakes if I leave them out?

There are no accents in Hinglish. Spelling counts exactly as shown, so type the word as written.

Is Hinglish typing slower than English typing?

Usually not much: the letters are the same, only the words differ. Most people start a little slower because the word patterns are new to their fingers.
