Code Typing Test

Swap prose for short programming snippets. Code tests put brackets, operators, quotes and semicolons in the path of your normal typing rhythm, with no editor or autocomplete to cover a mistake.

Before you start

Test setup

  • Programming snippets
  • Brackets and operators
  • No autocomplete

How to take it

  1. Click the test area and type the snippet exactly as shown.
  2. Treat every bracket, quote and semicolon as a required character.
  3. Slow down around symbol clusters; a clean reach is faster than a correction.
  4. Retake to see a different mix of snippets and compare symbol accuracy.

How scoring works

Symbols count as characters. The result reports the same WPM and accuracy as the other tests, without an editor or autocomplete assist.

About the code test

The code test measures how accurately you can reproduce short programming snippets containing brackets, quotes, operators and semicolons. There is no autocomplete or editor correction to hide a missed symbol.

What code typing measures

Code tests replace prose with short snippets built from programming syntax. Your hands have to move between letters, punctuation and shifted symbols while the next character is always visible. The result reflects how cleanly you reproduce that sequence without an editor helping you.

Reading a code result

WPM and accuracy use the same calculations as the other tests, but a low WPM is not automatically a poor result here. Symbol-heavy lines take longer to type than ordinary prose. Accuracy is the stronger signal: a fast run that drops brackets or quotes does not produce usable code.

Comparing code attempts

Snippets rotate, and different languages and symbol patterns are not equally difficult. Compare runs with a similar mix of punctuation, or compare your accuracy on the same snippet. Use repeated attempts to identify the reaches that cause corrections, not to chase one unusually fast line.
