Quote Typing Test

Type a real passage instead of a random word list. Quotes bring their own capitals, punctuation and sentence rhythm, which makes them useful practice for emails, essays and school work.

Before you start

Test setup

  • Short to long passages
  • Natural punctuation
  • Live WPM

How to take it

  1. Choose a passage length if you want a shorter quote or a longer extract.
  2. Type capitals and punctuation exactly as shown; they count as characters.
  3. Read one or two words ahead so commas and quotation marks do not arrive as surprises.
  4. Retake the same length to compare runs, or switch to another passage when you want variety.

How scoring works

Capitals and punctuation count as characters, just like letters. The result shows the same WPM and accuracy calculations used across TypePlay.

About the quote test

The quote test measures how accurately you reproduce a real passage with its original capitals, punctuation and sentence rhythm. It is closer to copying fixed text than typing a predictable word list.

Why passages read differently

A quote brings its own line length, punctuation and changes of sentence structure. You cannot rely on a familiar word list or even spacing. That makes this test useful practice for emails, coursework and any task where the wording is already fixed.

Reading a quote result

WPM reflects your average pace across the passage, and accuracy includes capitals, commas, apostrophes and quotation marks as real characters. A missed mark is still an error, even if the letters around it are correct. Speed and accuracy belong together because clean reproduction is the point of copying a passage.

Comparing repeated runs

Passages differ in length and punctuation density, so two different quotes are not a perfectly controlled comparison. Retake the same passage or use several runs at the same length. Look for steadier accuracy and fewer corrections before expecting the WPM number to rise.
